Professional disc golf player Carrie Berloger, a UC Santa Cruz alumna, had a tough first round in the Professional Disc Golfers Association-sanctioned St. Patrick’s Classic in Orangevale over the weekend and it cost her in the long run.
Berloger threw a 59 in the first round to start things off five back of the leader and eventual Women’s Open winner Anni Kremi of Richmond. Berloger gave a valiant effort through the remaining two rounds, but wasn’t able to make up the deficit. She finished with a 8-over 197 total to Kremi’s 7-over 196 total.
Berloger earned $280 for her finish. Kremi earned $410.
The Men’s Open winner was hometown disc golfer Derek Billings. He shot a 24-under 165 and took home $1,155.
