Berkeley’s Yoni Doron-Peters and Menlo Park’s Kayla Kielar were the men’s and women’s winners, respectively, of the Big Kahuna Triathlon in Santa Cruz on Sunday.
Doron-Peters wads the first finisher, crossing the line in 4 hours, 11 minutes, 31 seconds. He completed the 1.2-mile swim in 22:06, the 56-mile bike in 2:16:08, and the 13.1-mile run in 1:28:47.
Dean Discher was second [4:19:27] and Rob Hilton was third [4:22:55].
Kielar took the women’s overall title — despite suffering a four-minute penalty — crossing the finish line in 5:06:03. She was 65th overall after completing the swim in 28:29, the bike in 2:44:23, and the run in 1:41:56.
Jessica England was second [1:45:04] and Sandra Holbrook James was third [5:12:37] among women.
The Clydesdale division was won by Mike Behler [5:03:05] and the Athena division was won by Julie Gongliewski [6:28:36], who was the only female entrant.
