A year after he made the final of the Vans Would Cup of Surfing, Santa Cruz native Nat Young failed to make the quarterfinals of the same event at Sunset Beach on the North Shore of Hawaii on Tuesday.

Young scored a 9.67 two-wave point total to land behind heat winner Perth Sandlick [17.23], of Australia; runner-up Ricardo Dos Santos [13.43], of Brazil; and Hawaii’s own John John Florence [11.44], who was third and also eliminated in the Round of 32.

The World Cup of Surfing is the second stop in the Triple Crown of Surfing. Up next, the holding period for the Billabong Pipe Masters, in memory of Andy Irons, is scheduled to run from Dec. 8-20.

Turning Wheels for Kids will host their annual event, “The Big Bike Build,” where hundreds of volunteers will build 2,500 bikes in one day! It will be held at the South Hall of the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose.

Every year the request for bikes exceeds our ability to purchase them, and we hope that you will help us achieve our goal in getting every child in the Bay Area that needs and wants a bike, on one. We would like for you to be a part of this special event by making a donation that can be presented to Turning Wheels for Kids on the day of the Big Bike Build.

Your donation will be used for this and future events. Make checks payable to Turning Wheels for Kids. No donation is too small. $5, $10, $20. Anything will be greatly appreciated. Please direct questions and send all donations to:
