Three cyclocross racers represented Santa Cruz County at the top of the podium in the NorCal vs. SoCal State Cyclocross Championships in Bakersfield over the weekend. Santa Cruz’s Tobin Ortenblad and Lindsey Collins, as well as Bonny Doon’s Justin Robinson, each took home a win in the annual battle of California cyclocross.

NorCal won 310-233, according to Cycling Illustrated.

Ortenblad, 19, won the men’s Cat 1-4 race in 1 hour, 2 minutes, 28 seconds. He was followed by Santa Cruz’s Aaron Bradford, who took second place five seconds later, and Westlake Village’s Eric Bostrom, who took third place in 1:03:02. Ortenblad will represent Santa Cruz and with the under-23 American team in the cyclocross worlds next month.

Collins won the women’s masters open division 35-99 age race in 28:03. Robin Kaminsky took second in the same time, and Sacramento’s Linda Elgart took third in 29:35.

Robinson won the men’s Cat 1-5 masters division 35-99 age race in 44:13. He was followed by Burbank’s David McNeal in second place [44:23], and Turlock’s Craig Chaney in third place [also in 44:23].

Santa Cruz also saw its Chance Tiner take second [31:55] in the men’s open junior division 15-18 age race behind San Diego’s Quinten Kirby [31:51] and its Katie Melena take third [44:47] in the women’s Cat 1-3 division race behind winner Amanda Navman [43:13] and runner-up Elicia Hildebrand [44:23] of Atascadero. Melena is currently trying to raise funds to race in the masters cyclocross worlds next month.
