Capitola residents Nate Doss, the defending disc golf world champion, and Valarie Jenkins placed in the top five of their respective divisions in the Stockholm Discgolf Open over the weekend after first missing their flight out of the United States.

Doss was fourth in the men’s open, shooting a 17-under 235; and Jenkins was second in the women’s open, shooting a 20-over 272. Nashville’s Will Schusterick won the men’s open, which had 160 competitors, with a 24-under 228. Texas’ Paige Pierce won the women’s open, which had 12 competitors, with a 12-over 264.

Capitola’s Avery Jenkins, Valarie’s brother, landed in a four-way tie for 10th in the men’s open with a 10-under 242.

Doss and Jenkins missed their flight from New York on June 24 and eventually left the country June 25, according to their Twitter feeds, and Doss went straight to the course upon arrival.

The Stockholm Discgolf Open was a Professional Disc Golf Association event, running from June 28-July 1, and results included in this report are from the PDGA website.
