Watsonville resident and pro cyclist Ben Jacques-Maynes got into robo mode and rode the breakaway, taking the King of the Mountain jersey in the 131-mile first stage of the Tour of Utah today.

Jacques-Maynes [Bissell Pro Cycling] finished 4 minutes, 35 seconds back to land in 66th place for the first stage and in the general classification. But his dominant performance on the mountains of Utah out of Ogden made him stand out.

“1st KOM jersey in a long time,” Jacques-Maynes tweeted with a photo before later also posting, “I AM A ROBOT…”

The King of the Mountains jersey goes to “the rider who accumulates the most points by being one of the first three riders crossing KOM checkpoints at the top of all significant mountains throughout the course,” according to the Tour of Utah website.

The course included 8,939 feet of net ascent.

The first stage was won by Rory Sutherland [United Healthcare] in 5:25:41, according to the Tour’s website.

The event continues tomorrow, and there are six stages total.
