Santa Cruz resident Nic H’dez made it to the semifinals of Surfing America’s West Coast Prime Series stop at Church Beach in San Onofre on Oct. 6.

H’dez won his first-round heat with a 13.07 combined two-wave score and took second in the quarterfinals with a 12.50 to advance again.

In the semifinals, he put up a 12.33, but it wasn’t enough to beat eventual winner Jake Marshall [14.93] or Tyler Killen [13.67].
