Watsonville resident Jose Antonio Barba and Santa Cruz resident Julia Blanton each placed in the top 50 of the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively, of the Big Sur Half Marathon last weekend.
Barba crossed the finish line of the 13.1-mile race in 1 hour, 25 minutes, 40.7 seconds to finish 36th among men and 63rd overall.
Blanton crossed the finish line in 1:36:09.659 for 31st among women and 223rd overall.
The newlywed couple of Stephanie Rothstein-Bruce [1:12:18.975] and Benjamin Bruce [1:04:45.630] of Flagstaff, Ariz., won the race.

Santa Cruz’s Tobin Ortenblad eked out a win over the Jacques-Maynes brothers, Andy and Ben, in the Surf City Cyclocross elite men’s A single-speed race at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Watsonville on Sunday.
Ortenblad finished 10 laps in 59 minutes, 58 seconds for the win. He was the only rider in the field to break and hour.
Andy Jacques-Maynes finished runner-up in 1:00:26.1 and Ben Jacques-Maynes rounded out the top three [1:00:56]. The Jacques-Maynes are pro cyclists from the Watsonville area.
The event was the third in the Surf City Cyclo-X Series. The final event is scheduled for Dec. 16.
