Fresh off a win in the Woodside Ramble 50-kilometer race, Santa Cruz’s Chris Wehan placed 10th in the American River 50-mile cross country footrace from Sacramento to Auburn on April 7, according to results on

Wehan carried some momentum from a busy March, when he won the Woodside Ramble and the Montara Mountain 50k — and had top-10 placings in the Way Too Cool 50k, and Canyon Meadow Winter 50k, the Rodeo Valley Trail 50k.

Wehan crossed the American River finish line in 6 hours, 33 minutes, 51 seconds as one of several Santa Cruz County finishers who made the top 20.

New Zealander Vajin Armstrong won the race with a sub-six hour time [5:53:32].

Also from Santa Cruz County, Sean Lang, 30, of Santa Cruz placed 20th in 7:03:18; Soquel’s ultra-marathon mom, Ashley Lindsey, who runs despite a heart condition, placed 18th among women and 172th overall [9:06:42]; and Aptos’ Angela Rebol finished 20th among women and 175th overall [9:08:42].

Canadian Ellie Greenwood won the women’s title in 6:18:47. She was fifth overall.
