Santa Cruz teen snowboarder Marissa Hushaw‘s second annual Grind Out Hunger Rail Jam is scheduled for China Peak on Feb. 9, 2013.

This year’s event — a half-day competition with shwag for participants that benefits the nonprofit Grind Out Hunger — is set to begin at noon. Registration is from 9-11 a.m. and costs $15 the day of, or you can pre-register over here.

Last year, Hushaw’s event raised enough money for  3,600 meals. For more information about Grind Out Hunger and its mission, please visit its official site.

Royal Gorge at Donner Summit just outside of Lake Tahoe is open for the winter ski season, according to a press release.

“Trail passes will also be available for purchase at the Van Norden trailhead. All-day lift tickets will cost $27. Skiers can receive a $10 discount on a Royal Gorge trail pass on Saturday, and every day throughout the season, by purchasing a $19 CORE pass,” according to a press release.

I recently found this video at the Grind Out Hunger website and thought it’d be good to share over here. Aptos’ Marissa Hushaw, who you may remember because she dominates on a snowboard, held her inaugural Rail Jam for Grind Out Hunger at China Peak late last month. They raised enough money for 3,600 meals.

Aptos High freshman snowboarder Marissa Hushaw defended her spot atop the Boarder Cross and Giant Slalom standings  in the final Central California Ski and Snowboard Series event at China Peak Mountain Resort on Saturday — and she was named Outstanding Female Athlete of the Season by the CCSSS — according to a press release.

The CCSSS champ, who rides for Grind Out Hunger, went undefeated on the season in Giant Slalom, and she entered the BoarderX competition with two victories and one second-place finish from earlier in the year. She maintained her position in the overall standings by adding yet another win Saturday.

“Next season, Marissa has stated she will continue to pursue BoarderX and will change things up a bit focusing on Slope Style Park competitions, the Grind Out Hunger press release said.

Also in the 2013 season, Hushaw plans to compete in USASA South Lake Tahoe events. But first, she will for the first time ever host an event, the Marissa Hushaw Grind Out Hunger Jam, on Saturday.
