Covewater Paddle Surf has announced its Used SUP [Stand-up paddleboard] Sale and Parking Lot Sale are set for Oct. 27-28 at its Santa Cruz location, 729 Water St.
The third annual event will have 40 used SUPs with markdowns of 30 percent or more, as well as more than 20 new paddleboards at discounted prices, according to a press release.

Santa Cruz residents Kyle and Karla Wade had strong showings in their respective divisions in the Day at the Beach stand-up paddle races in Folsom over the weekend.
Kyle Wade, 47, placed ninth overall in the 6-mile elite paddle race, crossing the finish line in 1 hour, 7 minutes, 54 seconds — a little more than five minutes behind winner Jay Wild of Truckee.
Karla Wade, 40, placed seventh among women and 17th overall in the 5-miler for 12-foot-6 boards. She finished in 1:13:38 to women’s winner Valerie Khacahdourian’s [San Carlos] 1:04:22. Derek Dial of Reno, Nev., was the overall winner of that race [57:28].

Two 18-year-olds — Matt Becker and Jack Bark — won their respective divisions in the third annual Santa Cruz Down Wind Ryder Cup, a paddleboard race from Davenport to Cowell Beach in Santa Cruz, over the weekend.
Becker was victorious in the stand-up paddleboard division, finishing the 14.5-mile trek in 2 hours, 15 seconds on a 14-foot board. The event, which had prime conditions including 16- to 20-knot winds, saw 70 elite and novice paddlers from Hawaii and California come out.
“This was the most amazing race ever,” Bark was quoted saying in a press release. “I got the best bumps of my life out there and had a blast. I’m so stoked. I can’t wait for next year.
Bark won the prone division on a 12-footer in 2:09:49.
The contest was organized by the Santa Cruz-based Ghost Ryders Waterman Club and presented by the Quiksilver Waterman Collection.
